Jubilee Party Speaks on IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati's Resignation...Why is Chebukati resigning?

Jubilee Party has made another demand to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati asking him to clarify claims that he is contemplating to resign from office.

Through Secretary General Raphael Tuju, the Party noted that under the current law, Chebukati's resignation would plunge the country into a constitutional crisis "We got reports that IEBC chairperson is planning to leave office.

Such a move would result in a constitutional crisis, and he should make it clear before the repeat presidential elections," he stated.
Tuju, therefore, pointed out that the Parliamentary Joint Committee on election laws amendment should interrogate IEBC boss over the allegations.

Regarding Jubilee's plans to amend the election laws, the Secretary-General indicated that the changes are meant to cure any misconduct which could arise before the repeat polls.

The Parliamentary Commission is expected to compile a report to be tabled in Parliament next week, having collected views from the public on the proposed amendments to election laws.

The Committee, chaired by Baringo North MP William Cheptumo received views from the public in the past one week.

Chebukati's attempt to make his presentation was not welcomed by some members of the committee who sent him away after he attended the meeting without the rest of the commissioners.

“Can the chairman confirm that indeed he has a signed memorandum from the commission? We didn’t invite the chairman of the IEBC. We invited the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,” the Committee stated.
